"RARE NAKED-EYE NOVA
This is called a "recurrent nova." RS Oph is a binary star--a very lopsided one. RS Oph's companion is a red giant. There's very little distance between the stars, so the gravity of RS Oph is able to pull gaseous material off of the red giant down onto itself. Every couple of decades, enough matter accumulates to trigger an explosion. The last time it happened was back in 2006.
At 5th magnitude, the current outburst is visible to the unaided eye..."

Löytyy sopivasti eteläiseltä taivaalta illan pimennyttyä: https://spaceweather.com/images2021/09aug21/skymap_easy.png
